I was once a confused pet parent, too.
Hi everyone, I’m Chino Lui – a devoted pet parent with over 15 years of experience, and a pet nutritionist and food therapy consultant who believes that “diet can change lives.”
Like many others, I used to have no real understanding of pet nutrition. I trusted marketing claims on packaging and believed that “as long as they’re full and it’s convenient, it’s good enough.”
Everything changed when my Sheltie, whom I adopted 10 years ago, passed away from kidney disease less than a year after adoption. It made me question what we’re feeding our pets every day—and how it impacts their health. With my background in sports nutrition during university, this experience reignited my curiosity and passion for pet nutrition and natural dietary therapy.

From Pet Parent to Holistic Nutritionist
Since 2018, I’ve been formally studying pet nutrition and food therapy, combining theory with hands-on experience through consultations, case studies, and collaboration with educational programs.
To better understand the real-life needs of sick animals, I also interned at a veterinary clinic—learning how pathology and diet work hand in hand, so every recommendation I make can align with clinical practice.
My Credentials
- Certified Veterinary Food Therapist, Chi University (USA)

- Canine/Feline Nutrition Certificate, Southern Illinois University (USA)

My First Chronic Case: The Transformation of Mi
I’ll never forget my first chronic case – Mi, a 13-year-old poodle with pancreatitis and heart disease.
Mi was lethargic, had dry, dull fur, underweight at only 3.7kg, and suffered from watery stools. Her owner felt helpless.
I designed a tailored fresh food plan and provided nutritional guidance based on her condition.
Just two months later, Mi gained weight to 4.2kg, her coat became shiny again, and her energy returned. Her owner found renewed hope and peace of mind.

FAQ
Q1: Are you a vet? Do you offer diagnosis or treatment?
No, I am not a veterinarian and cannot provide medical diagnosis or prescriptions. I am an internationally certified pet nutrition and food therapy consultant offering nutrition-based support to help pet parents improve their pet’s health through diet.
Q2: Is there professional certification for pet nutritionists in Hong Kong?
Currently, there is no unified regulation or official registration system for “pet nutritionists” in Hong Kong. However, internationally recognized institutions offer scientific training in pet nutrition and holistic therapy. I hold multiple certifications from Chi University (USA), am a member of AAVN, and continue professional education to maintain high standards.
Q3: Is your method based on Eastern or Western medicine? Natural or scientific?
I believe we shouldn’t separate Eastern from Western or natural from scientific. My approach integrates Traditional Chinese Veterinary Food Therapy, Western nutritional science, and clinical observations — all focused on practical, effective outcomes that pet parents can apply at home.
Q4: Do you do anything besides consultation?
In addition to one-on-one consultations, I also conduct workshops, promote nutrition education through media appearances, and collaborate with public events or organizations to raise awareness and trust in natural food therapy.
Q5: How can I contact you for media or speaking opportunities?
Please email general@smartlovepet.com or use the contact form on the site. I’m happy to collaborate with media, educational groups, or brands on sharing science-based pet nutrition insights.
